A friend asked me why I don’t care about heaven or hell or afterlives after I said not caring about either is a far greater criticism of both than merely saying they don’t exist.
Put it this way … if the belief in either changed how I behaved, it could matter. If the change in my behavior was from fear or from reward, I deserve neither heaven nor hell, for I’m simply being coerced. That’s not a way I will ever live.
Given there’s no answering the question of their existence, I don’t care for the question.
The fact is, if it takes heaven or hell for me to gain one or the other, I have no moral intelligence at all; otherwise, I act as I should because how I act matters irrespective of heaven or hell.
