Choice And Belief

Can you choose what to believe, about anything?

Try.

What you’ll find when you do is that the only time you can choose what to believe is when belief and doubt are equally justified. Otherwise, unless a person has psychological issues, every human being believes only what they think is actually the case.

If you would contend that through study, reflection, and deliberation we change our minds about things, the question still stands; have you chosen what to believe or merely set out to be more certain about what the case is?

In that case, if you agree that one can only believe what one actually thinks the case is, then not only would you also be accepting that truth is apparent and subjective, but also that no one can choose to believe in God or choose salvation by choosing what to believe about Jesus.

Just a thought.
